Anyone have any idea’s Aden has never had black rings under his eyes. I asked his Pead and she said “it’s normal for kids with Ds” I said maybe but not my child.
So one eye now is much darker than the other he is complaining more and more the doctor (regular doctor not Pead) said he has an eye infection put him on antibiotics and gave us drops. Not made any difference. I’m getting worried really worried given how dark his eye is. Also he is not sleeping much constantly waking needing water. Aden’s never been a big water drinker, just had 1 and a half cup of water now he woke about 10mins ago.

Allergies, particularly to pet dander or dust mites. Also sounds like maybe his tear ducts are blocked (very common) Have you had a pediatric ophthalmologist check them?

The two may not be related. Increased thirst is a symptom of diabetes. Ask the ped to do a blood test.

Amy I think your right that the two aren’t related.
I called the Pead she said to ask the doctor for a swab test for his eyes, and a prick test for blood glucose levels.
the Doctor is certain that the blaack eyes and the thirst are seperate.
he gave me the swab test to use at home as there is nothing there at the moment. we see the Paed on Friday so if she wants she can do it then.
he did the prick test it was 6.5 so normal.
his black eyes are not so black today, the doctor thinks its from the infection as his body is run down.
my thoughts are his eyes are worse after school so I'm guessing his constant changes of aides at school means he is not getting enough water. we had this problem last term and I have made them record every Mil he drinks. this has stopped as I havne't been up pushing it. also this week when I went up early for school pick up as soon as i walked in to the room Aden signed drink and water, I gave him a drink put it back in my bag and he asked again and again, he drank 500mls of a 600ml bottle.
I googled late last night and dehydration was a sign of black eyes, as well because they come and go I'm leaning towards the dehydration or allergy.
Leah we wouldn’t’ have access to pediatric ophthalmologist and they have about an 8mth waiting list for people that are desperate, my girlfriends sons are seeing one in the city and she was on the fast list took 3mths very lucky.
The allergy thing we think Aden might have a milk allergy as he wont eat anything with milk, goes for rice biscuits over milk ones.. and stopped eating milk iceblocks. This kid loves iceblocks but he was sicking up after each one, so yeah think that is part of it.
Also the Pead said after talking to a Paediatric Gastroenterologist they wont put Aden under to test for Celiac disease and just to start Aden on a gluten-free diet. His Dad has Celiac so they are pretty sure even though he is testing negative for it, that he has it. Because of the red blood count and haemoglobin problems, that lead them back to Aden having a B12 deficiency.
This week we did a urine test to check the B12 save Aden from another blood test, the result I was told will take a bit longer.
Thanks for being here to ease my mind.

Joel gets dark circles under his eyes when he has a sinus infection but he also never drinks enough - I have to get on his case especially in summer.

I hope Aden is feeling better. Would love to come see you guys sometime. Can't see it happening at the moment but if a friend, who has a unit in southern QLD, offers it to us for our holiday we will try to meet up with you somewhere. Very Happy

They need to test him first thing in the morning via blood test to rule out diabetes. My ex in high school was a type 2 diabetic, insulin dependant. his eyes would get big dark circles underneath them when his sugars were out of whack, and he'd repeat himself unknowingly, and he would have to drink a ton of water....he ended up in hostpital as a child, diabetic shock and went into a coma for a few days, at which point they discovered diabetes....so I think it would be worth it to do more than just a finger prick at a random time during the day.

oh and they need to check it in the am because fasting is required, so if he just doesn't eat after dinner, you can take him first thing in the morning and it will have been 12 hours.
