High School with no aftercare program

My daughter will be 13 in July and entering 8th grade in September 2015. I am looking ahead to her high school years and I am scared to death.

There are no after care programs for kids in the school where my daughter is going, which means I will have to rely on the kindness of strangers to
help me get my kid home and watch her.

My mother has been a great help with this in the summer because the programs are 9-330 and I work 730-4. I am single mom. My mother is
80 years old and won't be around forever to help (she is in very good health though).

I don't have a lot of trust when it comes to having strangers deal with my daughter. I am really scared like should I quit my job? I have been a government employee for almost 19 years and I planned to stay here until
I retired in 11 years (I'm 51).

I don't know what advice anyone has, but I just had to put this out there to
folks that would understand. She is my only child and her dad is no help to
me.

I am wondering if you could hire one of the aides at the school to hang out with her until you get out of work and pick her up. Here we have a library within walking distance of school and a lot of kids walk over there and get their homework done right after school. I wouldn't quit work if I were you unless there was absolutely no alternatives as you need to maximize your pension. Good luck!

I would look at this web page and contact someone:

http://www.familyvoicesofminnesota.org/parent-to-parent/

They are there to help you connect to the resources you need. I think there must be some respite service or something similar that could help.

Jan.....that looks interesting! Amazing actually!!
Wish there was something like that here in Dublin.

Would love to know if you can work something out lesterbell. I can't offer advice cos I live too far away but want to wish you well with the transition.

Have you sought out PCA services? What about CSG or any of the other grants local to us that would help you pay for PCA services? Feel free to contact me privately at deanleah@comcast.net Also, if you're on Facebook, there is a MN special needs parenting group and you're sure to find some other families in Bloomington. And I'm just across the river in Eagan.
